It comes to the result of competing at your highest and getting a group together that really cares about each other and then letting the result happen at the end and being ok with whatever that result ends up being.

The Catching Confetti program is so good. It is jammed full of mindfulness and perspective goodness! It really reached our athletes at various levels. The greatest benefit was raising their awareness for what was happening in the moment and in their own minds. The program gave our athletes the words and pictures to express what they were going through.

My favorite part of the program was the discussions it created. Our ability to communicate with each other improved through those discussions and our ability to see each other as people, not just as teammates proved really valuable for some adverse situations that we hit through the year.
Because we had these discussions, we were able to come back to those things as a team…it laid a foundation for us to hold each other accountable…have hard conversations. Our players learned how to communicate with each other. The health of our team from a mental standpoint and the closeness of our team and how we grew was really, really significant.

One of the best decisions we made was to read Catching Confetti and take part in a workshop. In the workshop Bret talked about four actions to deal with stress and pressure. Being able to notice our body’s response to stress and then to have the tools to be able to deal with them made a huge impact, not just on our performance, but our enjoyment of the journey as well. I’m not sure we could have enjoyed our season or had the kind of success we had, had we not adopted a mindset of relaxed intensity.

I decided to do the program because I knew it would allow me to find confidence in myself to make decisions, to prepare, but also know that I’m more valuable than the scoreboard. This program helped our team develop a sense of calmness. We won 5 games (in the state tournament) by a total of 13 points…any coach or any fan will tell you I didn’t look worried, my kids didn’t look worried. We won our first-round game at the buzzer. We won our elite eight game with a buzzer-beater that sent it to overtime. [We had] that sense of relaxed intensity and focusing on the moment.
